How to Prosper by Spiritual Growth

How to Have Health and Prosperity

how to prosper

In this letter, John shows us how to prosper and to be part of God’s plan. He gives us two principles of God’s Kingdom:

  • God wants to give us an abundant life
  • When we help and support faithful ministers for the spreading of the Gospel, we become partners in their ministry

John the Apostle addressed this letter to Gaius, one of the leaders of a local church.

John commends Gaius for extending hospitality and supporting the itinerant teachers he had sent.

John wrote this letter around AD 90-100.

John wrote to commend Gaius for his hospitality and support of the itinerant ministers and to denounce the behavior of Diotrephes who opposed them and excommunicated the members of his church who helped them.

John wrote this letter from Ephesus.

How to Prosper in All Areas of Your Life – 3 John 1:2 –

God’s Will

John’s prayer reflects the will of God for you. He loves you and wants to bless you. He wants to give you abundant life (John 10:10). Everything that comes from God is to bless you (James 1:17).

This prayer for prosperity is not an approval of materialism. It reflects the desire of a Father loving His children and doing all that is possible to make then truly happy and successful.

God’s Plan

He created us to be happy and we are happy only when we are close to Him (Psalm 16:11).

He placed Adam and Eve in a place of blessings, the Garden of Eden. He empowered them, instructed them and communicated with them. They were happy, healthy and did not lack anything.

Further, God still loved them even after they fell (John 3:16). He looked for them (Genesis 3:9). He did not abandon them but implemented a plan for their redemption.

God’s Covenants

God started to communicate with them, to instruct them, to prepare and to restore them to the state they had before the fall, and even to a better state. For this purpose, He established many covenants with them.

From the beginning, God planned our salvation from all the consequences of sin.

Jesus’ Role in Our Salvation

In His great love, God reached out to us and sent His beloved Son, Jesus to save us (John 3:16).

Jesus came to show us the truth, to be an example for us, to die for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21) and destroy all the works of the devil (Acts 10:38).

True Prosperity

True prosperity is more than physical and financial, although it includes these as well. It springs from your soul. It is the result of understanding God’s principles, thinking and believing right.

In all the areas where your beliefs align with the Word of God, you will prosper.

For this reason, to have prosperity and happiness, you need to go to the Word of God. It is a life manual, written by your maker. You need to understand it, embrace it, appropriate it and apply it to your life.

As you let the Word of God work in you, you undergo a transformation (Romans 12:1-2). You are no longer conformed by the world. Your experiences become greater than what your physical senses perceive. The Holy Spirit guides you into all truth (John 16:13) and you start to live in the Kingdom of God (John 3:3, 5-6).

Walking in the Light

God’s Word in our heart becomes the lamp to our walk (Psalms 119:105). We start to live in the victory that Jesus achieved for us (1 John 5:4). As we seek His Kingdom, all the other things are provided (Matthew 6:33).

Questions to Consider

  1. What are your greatest needs?
  2. What can you do about them?
  3. How do you believe that God will satisfy your needs?
  4. What do your actions and use of your time show about your beliefs?

My needs are to prosper in my spiritual growth and experience higher grounds. I know God wants me to achieve his call in my life that’s why I take time to come closer to him in intimacy and by first of all refresh that first Love I had for his word when I became a born again. It is amazing to see him in every details of my life every day and I really want to cash the fullness of his presence!

As John says in this verse, when your soul prosper, your health follows; I experienced it when I became a devoted child of God, I had this sore throat that used to affect me at the same period of each year but suddenly disappear totally. I also learned how to feel the changes in my body homeostasis and prevented many disease state. I can deeply understand the prayer of John here for Gaius. God is our health insurance! Praise to Jesus.

    • Truly, Charlette, as we seek first after His Kingdom, all other things are added to us. PTL
