How to Be Full of Joy

John writes to make you full of joy. This is something that every heart desires. He is giving us the truths that can make you full of joy. Many will never discover these truths.

Introduction to the First Epistle of John

The Apostle John wrote this epistle when he was old, likely during the last ten years of his life. Here we can see that although John was old, he had a sharp mind able to hear the Holy Spirit and articulate important truths and correct a number of heresies that had spread in the church.

John’s writings use the word “love” frequently and show a loving attitude towards his “little children.”

John teaches us also how to live closer to God and have fellowship with each other so that we may have a happy life (1John 1:3-4). The epistle is dominated by two great truths: God is light (1 John 1:5) and God is love (1 John 4:8, 16).

By reading and meditating on this epistle, we can learn to experience God’s love and develop God’s love in our heart.

John outlived all the other Apostles by as many as 30 years. He wrote this epistle close to AD 90.

John writes on some basic doctrinal truths. He wanted to correct the early “Gnostic” heresy. The Gnostics believed that only what was spiritual was pure and that all that was physical was evil. For this reason, they denied that Jesus Christ was God and that He died. Further, they fell into immorality because they believed that nothing done by the body could defile the purity of the spirit.

John wrote this epistle from Ephesus, where he spent his later years after leaving Jerusalem.

You Can Be Full of Joy

John starts by explaining his goal. John writes to make you full of joy (1 John 1:4). This is something that every heart desires. He is giving us the truths that can make us full of joy. Many will never discover these truths. Who would not want to know these secrets? John is not the first to make this promise of joy. Jesus said it before (John 15:11, 16:24). Joy is a recurring theme with John (2 John 1:12).

If You Are Not Happy

If you are not happy today, do not give up. Let yourself believe again that you can experience joy. Jesus promised it and John witnesses to that truth.

He can share these truths with you because he has seen and heard how they work. They are not theories. He knows that we can experience such joy because he experienced it.

As we understand and believe the truths that he shares with us in this epistle, we can have fellowship with him. That fellowship is also with the Father and His Son.

What Do You Need to Believe

  • Believe that Jesus is the Word of Life (John 1:1,4,14, 1 John 1:1)
  • Believe that Jesus was from the beginning (is God) (John 1:1,18, 8:58, 16:28, 1 John 1:1,2)
  • Believe that in Jesus was manifested the eternal life that was with the Father (1 John 1:3, John 17:3)
  • Believe that you can have fellowship with Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit (1 Jon 1:7, John 14:20, 17:3,11,21, 1 Cor 1:9, 2 Cor 13:14)

The Secret for Being Full of Joy

The secret for being full of joy is to have fellowship with God. Dear brothers and sisters cultivate the awareness of God’s presence and enjoy His fellowship. In His presence is fullness of joy (Psalms 16:11).

When you are not full of joy it is because you are in the presence of your problems. That does not help you at all.

When you realize that you are not full of Joy, stop yourself from doing what you are doing and thinking what you are thinking. Become aware of God’s presence. He is there with you. Start to worship Him. Joy will come to you.

Your Days of Sadness Can Be Over

Develop this habit, and the days of sadness and loneliness will be over. Start living according to Philippians 4:8.

This is such an important topic that today I am going to stop here. It is not how much you read but how much you get that counts. Today, decide to develop this new habit. We can work on it together. Come back to this page and share the record of your progress. If you have questions, ask them. I will respond to your comments. Do not try to go after too many goals.

My Witness to this Truth

I can witness to this truth because I know that it works for me.

Don’t miss this opportunity. It can change your life.

If you already have this experience, share it with others to encourage them.

Thank you.

Prayer of Faith

Thank you Father! You said that I can be full of joy. I believe your Word and I believe John’s witness.  I will seek to have fellowship with You, with Jesus and with the Holy Spirit. I will rejoice in your presence.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!

This portion revived my joy because though I made efforts to be nice with people, I was deeply wounded yesterday and felt so sad. I thought maybe I should learn how to communicate at fresh as a child or learn how to shut up definitely but the pain was so strong till the Lord lead me to read this blog about full of joy. Yes I choose to remain in God’s presence where there is fullness of joy. Thank you again Pastor. Nice day to all.

The lesson I learn is that I am just a vapor. I just need to allow God to shape the image of Christ in me for that is his goal in my life. The joy of the Lord is really my strengh. PTL.
