The Temple of the Holy Spirit

  • 1 Cor 6:9-10 – The wicked will not inherit the Kingdom of God
  • 1 Cor 6:11 – Now you are washed, sanctified and justified in Christ
  • 1 Cor 6:12-14 – Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial
  • 1 Cor 6:15 – The body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord
  • 1 Cor 6:16-18 – Sexual intercourse makes two people one flesh

The Collapse of Civilizations Starts With Sexual Promiscuity

Fornication has been accepted and widespread for a long time. The movies and the media have contributed to a decline of the moral standards in our society. But the road of lust is a slippery one. When the boundaries are not respected it becomes like a drug addiction and degenerates into all kinds of uncontrolled behavior.

Paul describes the process clearly, they knew God but did not glorify Him, became futile in their thoughts and God gave them up in the uncleanness of the lusts of their hearts and burned in their lust for one another. All civilizations that reached this point of immorality determined their own collapse.

It Ends with the Acceptance and Spreading of Sexual Deviation

Recently the fruit of sexual immorality has become ripe and homosexuality and bisexuality (whatever “feels good”) have spread and become accepted! Even children are being encouraged in some schools to “experiment” with this. The educational system is contributing to the spiritual damage to the young generations by promoting these false beliefs.

The media are foolishly reinforcing the spreading of these ideas. There are now several television series which include homosexuals and of course, most include fornication. Today it is futile to speak out against this without being accused of being a religious fanatic or homophobic. This shows that the Christian-based civilization is no longer Christian.

The Spiritual Ignorance in the Church and the Biblical Position

The confusion has even penetrated the church and, today, practicing homosexuals are accepted as ministers in some denominations. This is in evident conflict with many portions of the Word of God (e.g. 1 Cor 6:9-10) and cannot be tolerated by believers. Sinners should be preached repentance and believers should be corrected from wrong thinking and confusion. In the present culture, morality in this area has reverted to the pre-Christian age, and this is not an easy task.

The verses in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 leave no room for misunderstanding concerning today’s error of accepting abnormal sexual orientations. This is not the only place in the Bible where this truth concerning sexual orientation is revealed.

The Good News Can Set People Free

The pseudoscience used to justify these tendencies is complete nonsense. These are sins and those who are involved in them can be set free, like from any other sin, by repentance and faith in the finished work of the cross. Without repentance and faith, there cannot be deliverance. The evidence is that many that come to this realization and want to be set free have victory over these sins. These people are being delivered when they receive the proper ministry from believers who speak the truth in love.

Today’s believers are spiritually weak and far too passive. They are being bullied into silence by gay activists.

Glorify God in Your Body

Y0ur body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God.  You were bought at a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God`s (1 Cor 6:19-20).

This verse can be applied in so many different ways. It should remind us that we are more than physical beings. Our body should be serving and glorifying God. This is its greatest purpose and this has some implications:

  • I should look after my body as belonging to God. My life belongs to God.
  • I am responsible for looking after it properly.
  • I should use it to please God and bring glory to God.
  • I should allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in it and not other spirits.

Warning: Do Not Open Up to Evil Spirits

It is good to know that other spirits cannot enter our body if we don’t invite them in. We do that through our desires and emotions. These evil spirits, as they start dwelling in men, have both spiritual and physical effects on their life. These spirits are called by the manifestation that they produce. Examples of evil spirits include:

  • Lust – This can take different forms
    • Unholy sexual desires
    • Gluttony
    • Greed
  • Anger
  • Fear
    • Fear of failure
    • Fear of success
    • Fear of man
    • Fear of rejection
    • Fear of infirmity

Often more than a spirit will be involved at the same time. The greater the controls that these evil spirits have on people, the greater will the effects be, both on their physical and spiritual health.

Know That Jesus Has Set You Free

Believers having appropriated Jesus’ work on the cross can be free from any invading spirits and they have the power to resist their influences by repenting and taking by faith their deliverance. Other believers, anointed by the Holy Spirit can help by taking authority over them. These spirits may make their hosts seek pleasure but always bring suffering and destruction.

Walk in Your Freedom

Allowing some things in your life may not be beneficial. We can discern that we need to take action by observing the things that make us loose our control and become addictions (1 Cor 6:12). When we discover this, we must realize that we are opening ourselves up to an evil spirit. Know that Jesus has conquered them (Col 2:15) and He has set us free (Jn 8:36). Take and walk in complete freedom by faith.

Application Prayer

Lord, we join in prayer against today`s sexual immorality and promiscuity. We stand against these spirits of immorality to protect ourselves, our children and our families against them. A healthy sexuality is a gift from God and an unhealthy one is the source of great pain. Lord, in Your name we also come against the influences of these spirits on those we know and this society.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

A number of years ago there were a few colleagues at my workplace that were gay. I got to know one of them enough that I discussed with him topics such as legalizing gay marriages. He shared that he did not support legalizing it. I was a bit of a surprise but he did have, and still has a partner. One day he came into my office to get advice on his next promotion. I gave him my opinion where I thought there was a position that fit his skills and experience. Our conversation shifted and I asked him if he ever thought of walking away from homo sexuality. He said, Peter I have gone too far for God to forgive me. My response was that God will forgive you if you want to change. His face looked like he was hopeless, in a trap that he thought he could not escape. It was a sad picture. Sexual immorality can put you in place that you cannot escape. It is best to stay away.

I have read 1 Cor 6. Verses 13-20 really hit home for me this time around. Our existance is a gift from God, so doing whatever we want without discerning the spiritual value is sin. How would parents feel if a gift freely given was just trashed? It’s a yucky feeling. And yet, God gives us second chances. Wow!
