Jesus Cleanses God’s Temple
Jesus judged severely the making of God’s temple a market place (John 2:14-17). I believe that Jesus’ strong action should be carefully considered and applied to today. I am sure that today He judges just as severely when “God’s anointing” becomes just a lucrative business and innocent believers are exploited.
Only who Is Spiritually Awake Can See God’s Supernatural Signs
Some may challenge my authority to say this, just as the Jews challenged Jesus’ authority to judge them because He had no title or recognition by the religious leadership (Isa 53:1-3) who allowed these things. They demanded a sign as proof. This is strange because He was publicly performing signs, miracles and healing people, but they were blind to all that. However, even today, we can only see what we want to see and what fits our expectations.
Our Body Is the Temple of God
Jesus’ response to their challenge connects His zeal for the cleansing of the temple, with the idea that our body is the real temple of God (1Cor 3:16). But they did not understand Him, and He did not bother to explain Himself. This too is a lesson for us. The zeal that He had for the temple in Jerusalem should also be our zeal for the cleansing of our temple. The zeal of the Spirit of Christ is like a fire that burns out all fleshy things to allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in us (Rom 8:8-11). This zeal is manifested in your life as you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit.
Jesus’ Prophesy of His Death and Resurrection
Jesus’ response was also a prophecy of His resurrection. The sign was given to them (Acts 10:40, 1Cor 15:4) but for many it was not enough.
Prayer of Faith
Lord, let that zeal burn within me as it burned in Jesus, that I may separate myself from fleshy things to allow Your Holy Spirit to dwell in me. May I walk under the direction and anointing of the Holy Spirit as Jesus did. He is my model, my Savior and my Lord.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
